1350: The temple was built, the royal temple was established in the Ayutthaya period, named Wat Kok Khwai with the original purpose of just building stupas for worship.

1767: The temple was renamed Wat Kok Krabue.

During the reign of King Rama III (1824-1851): He ordered the construction of a Chinese ship underneath two stupas, the two stupas will represent two masts with the meaning of reminding Thais of dragons. After completion, King Rama III also changed the name of the temple to Wat YanNawa (this name remains the same to this day).
